'May sayad lamang ang makakaisip': Villanueva strongly condemns MSU bombing

Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva said on Monday, Dec. 4, that the kind of thinking of those behind the bombing inside the Mindanao State University (MSU) that killed four people has no place in an orderly society.

"Kaya (That's why) we strongly condemn in the highest form of condemnation itong nangyari sa (what happened here in) MSU," he said.

What's saddening about what happened, according to Villanueva, is the appalling incident happened while people were praying and expressing their faith inside the campus.

The explosion occurred at the Dimaporo Gymnasium inside MSU while there was an ongoing Advent mass for worshipping Christians around 7 a.m., said Major General Gabriel Viray III, commander of the 1st Infantry Division (1ID).

Three females and one male mass attendees were immediately killed in the incident while at least 50 others were injured - 42 were brought to Amai Pakpak Medical Center while eight were rushed to the MSU Infirmary.

"So we are calling our Philippine National Police (PNP), and government authorities to do everything we can, lahat gawin natin, kung kinakailangan hindi tayo lahat matulog para matunton itong mga salarin na ito (let's do everything, if needed, let's not sleep until we find the suspects behind this)," Villanueva said.

"At hindi lang matunton kundi maparusahan nang husto at ipakita natin sa mundong ito na lahat tayo nagkakaisa para kondenahin ang karumal dumal na insidenteng ito na tanging may sayad lamang ang makakaisip (And not only to capture them, but to punish them severely and show the world that we are one in condemning this apalling incident that only someone insane would think of)," he added.

Before the incident, the 6th Infantry Division (6ID) also launched airstrikes and ground assault against Daulah Islamiyah in Datu Hoffer Ampatauan, Maguindanao del Sur last Dec. 1 which led to the death of 11 militants.


The military also encountered Daulah Islamiyah militants in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur on Sunday morning, killing one of its sub-leaders, but further details of the operation have yet to be available, according to Viray.

The military in Marawi City was placed on a heightened alert following the explosion. From 100 Daulah Islamiyah militants, Viray said the group's strength has been reduced to 41 fighters still operating in Lanao del Sur.
