Israel calls for unity vs terrorism; other nations condemn MSU attack
Israel on Monday, Dec. 4, stressed the importance of a united front against terrorism after a bombing believed to be perpetrated by extremists killed four and wounded dozens in an attack in Marawi City over the weekend.
The Israeli Embassy in Manila said it stands in solidarity with the Philippine government and the Filipino people in face of a "despicable attack" at a gymnasium in Mindanao State University during a mass on Sunday morning.
"Terrorism is a global threat that needs collective unity among nations to safeguard the well-being of all people and community," the embassy said in a statement.
The embassy also said it is condemning such a heinous act of terrorism and its hearts go to the victims and their bereaved families.
"We also pray for the swift recovery of those injured," it added.
Meanwhile, other diplomatic missions in Manila condemned the incident on Monday.
German Ambassador to the Philippines Andreas Pfaffernoschke said he was "deeply saddened" by the attack, while the Swedish embassy said it is concerned over the incident, considering that Marawi "is still recovering from the 2017 siege.
"This display of violence further delays people's opportunity to rebuild their lives," the Swedish embassy said.
Earlier on Sunday, envoys of several countries had already denounced the attack, including those of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Australia, France, China, Czech Republic and the European Union.
