Balenciaga really went big for its chunky sneaker design

The 10XL Sneaker was introduced during the brand’s first runway show in Los Angeles

In the past years, Balenciaga has been making waves online because of its fashion releases and infamous campaigns. Just last month, the Paris-based maison disrupted the fashion scene with its spring 2024 towel skirt, which is priced at $925 (around P51,000). And it seems the brand is not yet ready to stop producing unusual pieces.

Recently, Balenciaga unveiled its fall 2024 collection in Los Angeles, USA, making it the brand's debut runway show in the city. The collection presented creative director Demna Gvasalia’s interpretation of LA’s style, with his take on activewear and glamorous evening wear pieces. It also marked the launching of its new footwear, the 10XL Sneaker.

As the name suggests, the sneakers come in an exaggerated proportion. According to the brand, “the 10XL’s shape is based on archetypal gym footwear that has been augmented. Its construction adheres to the elements of an everyday sports-style sneaker, but the scale is distorted and enlarged.” Although it is mega in size, the sneakers are lightweight and are available in yellow/white/blue and blue/gray/black colorways.

Apart from the 10XL Sneaker, present on the runway as well were the brand’s collaborations with American upscale supermarket chain Erewhon Market and American jewelry retailer Jacob & Co. The Balenciaga | Erewhon series showcased t-shirts, zip-up hoodies, and embroidered baseball caps, while its partnership with Jacob & Co. mirrored “American youth culture and [imbued] it with a Made in the USA opulence.”

The 10XL Sneaker and pieces from the Balenciaga | Erewhon series are now available on its e-commerce platform.
