Scattered rains to prevail in parts of Bicol, ‘fair’ weather in rest of PH on New Year’s Day

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Dec. 31 that most of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with only a few rain showers over the next 24 hours, allowing Filipinos to celebrate the New Year in “fair” weather.

PAGASA said the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Albay, Sorsogon, and Catanduanes.

Those in these areas are advised to take caution, as landslides and flash floods may occur, especially if there is moderate to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said Batanes and Babuyan Islands will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”

The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will also be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms brought by the easterlies or localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also cautioned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.
