QCPD chief reminds cops not to use firearms in celebrating New Year
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan on Saturday, Dec. 30, reminded his personnel to refrain from using firearms in welcoming the New Year.
The QCPD said that it will implement strict measures to monitor and enforce the police chief's directive to reinforce a zero-tolerance policy for the irresponsible use of firearms.
Maranan said that those who will be involved in indiscriminate firing among his men will immediately be apprehended and face subsequent administratively and criminally charges.
"Everyone will be encouraged to find alternative and safe means of celebrating the occasion that does not pose risks to public safety," the city police chief said.
"To the men and women of QCPD, let us exercise the utmost caution and refrain from using firearms as part of the New Year’s celebration," he added.
Maranan said that the city police force must ensure the safety of the community to avoid any untoward incidents and serve as an example by celebrating the New Year responsibly.
He also reiterated that confiscation of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnics will continue until the celebration of the New Year ends.
On Saturday, Maranan led the destruction of 13,078 pieces of seized illegal/prohibited firecrackers worth P400,000 at the QCPD Grandstand.
The firecrackers were confiscated during 94 police operations launched from Dec. 26-30, in accordance with the local government's strict implementation of firecrackers ban in the city.
