PH fire incidents decrease in December 2023- BFP

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported on Monday, Jan. 1, a slight drop of fire incidents in the country in December  2023. 

From 1,090 in December 2022, the BFP data stated that it went down to 1.024 in December 2023. 

In a GMA News report, BFP spokesperson Supt. Analee Atienza said only 97 fire incidents occurred in the National Capital Region (NCR) in December 2023 as opposed to the 249 recorded during the same period of the previous year.

The BFP attributed the decrease in fire incidents to the higher awareness of the public, local firecracker bans, and the visibility of fire trucks.

Atienza said that the BFP will lift the BFP ‘red alert status’ on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

However, Atienza bared that 159 areas in the country still have no fire trucks, most of them in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Caraga, Zamboanga, and Calabarzon. 

She noted that fortunately these areas have never or rarely experienced fire incidents.

The BFP official said that the BFP Modernization Program, which will run up to 2034, is set to address the lack of fire trucks in these areas as part of its initial phase.
