DND eyes 'stable, secure, solid' Philippines in 2024

The Department of National Defense (DND) called on the public to support the security sector to help make the Philippines "stable, secure, and solid" in 2024.

DND Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. made the appeal in his New Year's Day message.

"The Department of National Defense joins our people in welcoming the New Year. We thank our President, our stakeholders, and our people for the trust and confidence in our institution," Teodoro said.

"We call upon the same outpouring of support in the coming year so that we can help build a stable, secure, and solid Philippines," he added.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff, General Romeo Brawner Jr. also extended his greetings to every officer, enlisted personnel, and civilian human resource of the AFP.

He said that while the AFP had its fair share of challenges in 2023 – which include dealing with internal security threats such as terrorists, communists, and other lawless groups to external threats particularly the tension in the West Philippine Sea – the professionalism, discipline, and dedication to duty of the men and women of the organization served as the cornerstone of their collective successes.

"Whether on land, in the air, or at sea, you have displayed resilience and valor in upholding the principles of ‘Honor, Service, and Patriotism.’ Together, we have a remarkable journey in the service of our nation," Brawner said.

For the upcoming year, Brawner rallied the troops to take in the lessons they learned and follow up on the achievements they earned in 2023.

"New challenges and opportunities come at the dawn of the new year. Hence, it will once again demand our collective efforts and expertise," he said.

"I am confident we will continue to rise to the occasion and overcome whatever lies ahead. As such let us embrace the coming year with fortified shared values and commitment to our mission," he added.
