SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Twenty-five firecracker-related injuries were recorded in Region 1 (Ilocos) from December 21 to 27.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, Medical Officer IV of the Department of Health-Region 1, said that Pangasinan recorded 20 firecracker-related injuries. La Union has four and Ilocos Sur has one.
Bobis said this is a 79 percent increase compared to the same period last year with only 14.
Twenty-two victims sustained blast and burn injuries due to unlabeled imported firecrackers and three were injured by “boga” or improvised cannon.
DOH-Region 1 is under Code White Alert, Bobis said, adding that surveillance of fireworks-related injuries in the region is continuing.
He advised people injured by firecrackers to clean their wounds with clean water.
