House Speaker Martin Romualdez gave a stern warning on Sunday night, Dec. 3 to those behind the appalling blast at the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City that same morning.

"To those who seek to disrupt the peace and harmony in our society, know that such actions will not be tolerated," Romualdez said in a statement.

"We will take all necessary steps to deal with any form of sabotage against the peace and safety of our people decisively," said the leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.

At least four people died during the Sunday morning bombing, which took place in the middle of a mass for the students.

"On behalf of the House of Representatives, I extend our deepest sympathies to the victims of the heartbreaking incident at [MSU]," said Romualdez, president of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD).

"This act of violence, which has led to the loss of lives and injury of many, particularly students, is a stark reminder of the challenges we face in ensuring peace and security in our communities," he said.

Romualdez further described the incident as "deeply troubling".

At any rate, he underscored the need for calm as authorities try to piece together the tragic blast at the Marawi university.

"As we await the results of the ongoing investigation, I appeal to everyone for calm and sobriety.

"The House of Representatives is fully committed to supporting the affected residents and ensuring that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice. We stand ready to provide the necessary assistance to aid in the recovery and healing of the community," Romualdez said.
