The Department of Health (DOH), local government agencies, health institutions, private sector entities, and non-government organizations hosted this year's World AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) Day, emphasizing the significant role of communities in propelling impactful change and progress in the realm of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) advocacy.

In a statement on Sunday, Dec. 3, DOH Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa emphasized the annual tradition of celebrating World AIDS Day.
"The Philippines observes World AIDS Day by commemorating and highlighting solidarity in the fight against HIV/AIDS," Herbosa said.
"As the nation rallies together on December 2nd, we reaffirm our commitment to drive awareness, support, and action in the fight against HIV/AIDS," he added.
The Health chief also emphasized that this year's "observance seeks to fortify not just the commitment of PLHIV (Person Living with HIV) but also emphasizes the involvement of diverse communities advocating for HIV awareness and support."

In addition to the DOH, the collaborative efforts of the Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD), Project Red Ribbon, EpiC Philippines, Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc., along with the National Parks and Development Center and the City of Manila, brought this event to fruition.
Furthermore, the event saw participation from national and local government agencies, health institutions, private sector entities, non-governmental organizations, key affected communities, and students from public schools in Metro Manila.
Their active involvement underscored the significance of engaging youth in advocacy efforts.
Moreover, the celebration also aimed to break the prevalent stigma and discrimination in the general population.
"It also seeks to address key populations such as the Young Key Population, Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), Transgender Women (TGWs), PLHIV (Person Living with HIV), affected families, women, children, and youth," DOH noted.
