MSU emphasized that such acts have no place in a civilized society, especially in the confines of an institution of higher learning.
"Violence has no place in a civilized society, and it is particularly abhorrent in an institution of higher learning like MSU, a bulwark of peace, harmony, solidarity, reverence for life and humanity," it said.
The university administration condemned the act in the strongest possible terms by calling it an "assault on our core values and commitment to creating a safe and inclusive community for all."
The MSU expressed its deepest condolences to the victims and their families and pledged to support and assist those affected by the tragedy.
On the other hand, to ensure the safety and well-being of the MSU community, particularly the Christians, the university suspended classes until further notice and had additional security personnel to safeguard the campus.
"We urge the university constituents to remain calm but cautious. We urge the students to remain in their dormitories, boarding houses, and homes inside the campus until further notice," it said.
The administration also assured that the university is working closely with local government units (LGU) and law enforcement authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
"We are aware of the heightened sensitivities and concerns that arise from such a tragic event, and we want to assure everyone that we are taking every measure possible to protect our students, faculty, and staff," the university administration said.
The university added that it will not be deterred by this act of violence and will continue to "work towards building a more peaceful and just MSU community."
