Mendoza seeks Facebook's help in taking down accounts offering LTO online assistance
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will coordinate with the management of Facebook Philippines in taking down accounts that have been offering online assistance for driver’s license and motor vehicle registration transactions.
LTO chief Vigor D. Mendoza II said he already tasked all the officials of the agency to tap their respective personnel in monitoring Facebook and other social media platforms for accounts that post “palakad”, or assistance package for driver’s license and motor vehicle registration transactions.
“We will also tap all our employees to immediately report to their district heads any accounts that offer LTO online assistance. We are one family and it is the obligation of each and every one of us to protect the name of our agency,” said Mendoza.
“We are also planning to give incentives to LTO employees whose information could lead to the arrest of these online scammers and take down their social media accounts,” he added.
Mendoza explained that there is no more reason for their clients to tap the services of fixers since the digital shift which it aggressively pushed already guarantees quick and comfortable transactions.
From student permits, driver’s license application and renewal to motor vehicle registration and renewal, Mendoza said all of them can now be done online through the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS).
Since he assumed the top LTO post, Mendoza pushed for the consolidation of the two IT systems in the LTO in order to make all transactions in the agency comfortable and glitch-free to all its clients.
As a result of his constant monitoring and follow-up, the problems that have hounded the LTO in its digital shift in the past few years were resolved within the first four months of Mendoza’s leadership at the agency.
Based on monitoring on the ground, Mendoza said the digital shift of all LTO transactions resulted in the significant decrease in the intervention of fixers in all LTO offices across the country.
“This digital shift has improved our anti-corruption measures in the agency because it results in less human intervention, particularly those involving fixers,” said Mendoza.
“There are other people who are still engaging in scamming our clients so this will be our focus. We will not allow these people to taint the image of the LTO,” he added.
The LTO Chief also asked netizens to help the LTO in running after online scammers.
