Mayor offers P300,000 reward for info on gunmen of lady village chair


CAMP JUAN, Ilocos Norte – Mayor Antonio Mariano of Marcos, this province, has offered a P300,000 reward for reliable and accurate information leading to the arrest and identity of the gunmen and mastermind in the murder of a lady barangay chairman in the municipality on December 1.

Police have created a special investigation task group to probe the gun-slaying of Chairman Helen Abrigado of Barangay Ferdinand.

Ilocos Norte police director, Police Col. Julius Suriben, said  that the firearm used by the suspects during the incident was a caliber .45 pistol based on the recovered bullet and empty cartridges at the crime scene.

Suriben said they are exerting all efforts to solve the case.

“We are considering all angles in the ongoing in-depth investigation to the incident in the knowing the motive, the suspects, and the mastermind. These angles include grudge, political, and business,” he said.

“We are also considering some persons of interest that could shed light on the incident,” Suriben added.

Abrigado was shot dead by gunmen onboard a motorcycle in Barangay Tabucbuc, along the Padsan River, while she and her colleagues were on their way home from a Christmas event in Marcos. 

The victim, who was a former Sangguniang Bayan member of Marcos, died while undergoing treatment at the Mariano Marcos Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City, this province.
