Marcos said this hours after the quake struck off the country's coast at 10:37 p.m. about 21 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan municipality in Surigao del Sur.

The Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the quake, which triggered a tsunami warning and strong aftershocks until Sunday morning, at magnitude 7.4.

In a social media post on Sunday, the President said the national government was getting in touch with those affected by the earthquake.

"We continue to provide assistance to the families affected by the impact and aftermath of the magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Mindanao," he wrote in his X (formerly Twitter) account.

"The DSWD and DILG, in collaboration with local government units, are actively coordinating efforts to provide essential aid to those in need," he added, referring to the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Marcos encouraged the public to unite amid this challenging time.

"Together, we will overcome the obstacles posed by this disaster and emerge stronger," he said.

While there are no reported casualties or significant damage, President Marcos said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was diligently assessing the CARAGA region with the support of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The Phivolcs also continued monitoring aftershocks to ensure the safety of areas affected.
