Mayor Jerry Treñas recently signed Executive Order (EO) No. 2023-157 mandating the installation of security labels on PWD IDs.
“With the significant discount granted by law to PWDs, there is great tendency for the people to counterfeit their IDs in order to avail themselves of such benefit,” Treñas said.
The order took effect immediately and PWDs were urged to go to the Iloilo City Hall at the soonest possible time to avail of these.
“There have been reports and actual apprehensions of counterfeit PWD identification cards,” Treñas said.
Treñas pushed security features to curb the number of fake PWD cards.
Based on Republic Act 10754 or the Act Expanding the Benefits and Privileges of Persons with Disability, PWDs are automatically entitled to a 20 percent discount on food and basic services and are also exempted from paying Value-Added Tax (VAT).
