The House of Representatives is ready to tap its resource and pass legislation in an effort to assist the people of Surigao del Sur, which was struck by a powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake.
Thus, said Speaker Martin Romualdez, leader of the 300-plus strong House in a statement Sunday, Dec. 3.
"With deep concern and solidarity, we stand with the people of Surigao del Sur in the aftermath of last night's (Saturday) powerful earthquakes. These events have brought significant challenges, and our hearts go out to all those who have been affected," Romualdez said.
"We are prepared to mobilize resources and pass urgent measures that can aid in the recovery and rebuilding efforts. The welfare and safety of our citizens are of utmost importance, and we will work tirelessly to address their needs during this critical time," the House chief bared.
Romualdez says the chamber acknowledges the severity of the disaster and is actively coordinating with relevant government agencies to ensure prompt and comprehensive support.
"Our commitment is to provide immediate relief and long-term assistance to the communities in distress.
"I call upon my colleagues in the House and all sectors of society to join forces in extending help and compassion to our brothers and sisters in Surigao del Sur. Together, we will overcome this challenge and rebuild stronger and more resilient communities," the Speaker said.
