House leader calls for 'vigilance and unity' after Marawi university bombing

Lanao del Sur 2nd district Rep. Yasser Alonto Balindong has pleaded for "vigilance and unity" in the aftermath of the deadly bombing Sunday morning, Dec. 3 at Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City.
"We strongly encourage everyone to maintain vigilance and unity against any violence that poses a threat to the advancement and peace of our communities," Balindong, a deputy in the House of Representatives, said in a statement.
"Let's stand firmly together in our steadfast dedication to attaining peace and justice for everyone," he said.
Balindong joined his fellow House members in condemning the attack and in sympathizing with the victims' families.
"We express our strong condemnation for the tragic bombing at the Mindanao State University Gymnasium in Marawi City, which resulted in the loss of several innocent lives during a Sunday mass gathering...We extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to the victims and their loved ones during this difficult time," he said.

At least four people were killed in the blast.
"This reprehensible act undermines the ongoing efforts of Marawi's residents to establish and maintain peace and stability. Immediate measures must be taken to ensure accountability for those responsible for this cowardly act," Balindong said.
He further said that violence "has no rightful place in our society and demands unequivocal condemnation and decisive action by the authorities".
