Alcantara, partner capture doubles title in Kuala Lumpur tourney

Francis Casey Alcantara ended the season with a bang after he and Indonesian Christopher Rungkat captured the men’s double title in the M15 Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia over the weekend.

The top-seeded Alcantara and Rungkat thumped second pick Pruchya Isaro of Thailand and Thijmen Loof of the Netherlands, 6-4, 6-2, to reign supreme in this $15,000 event.

“Great way to finish the year with back-to-back titles with the King of Indonesia @christorungkat. Thank you for the great two weeks here in Malaysia,” Alcantara wrote on his social media, referring to their doubles crown in the M15 Ipoh Perak also in Malaysia a week before.

Overall, Alcantara nabbed five ITF doubles titles this year with different partners, improving his growing list of collections to 22 crowns since his first title in 2015 in a Futures event with Johnny Arcilla.

His other titles this year include the M25 Nakhon Si Thammarat and M25 Jakarta with Japanese partner Hiroki Moriya, and the M25 New Delhi with Isaro.

In his recent feat, Alcantara and Rungkat never dropped a set throughout the tournament.

They first clobbered Malaysians Daniel Leong Prickett and Darrshan Suresh Kumar, 6-0, 6-3, followed by victories over Italy’s Andrea Bacaloni and Chinese Taipei’s Chen Ying-Ze, 6-2, 6-0, and South Korea’s Lee Duckhee and Thailand's Thantub Suksumrarn, 6-4, 6-0.

Ranked No. 231 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) doubles, Alcantara eyes to start the season next year with a Challenger event in Bangkok, Thailand in January.
