23-year-old street sweeper arrested for alarm, scandal in Ermita
The Manila Police District (MPD) reported on Sunday, Dec. 3, that it arrested a 23-year-old street sweeper who was involved in a gang fight in Ermita, Manila on Thursday, Nov. 30.
The suspect was identified as Edmer Buenaflor, resident of Tondo, Manila. He had undergone inquest proceedings last Saturday, Dec. 1.
According to the police report, MPD operatives were conducting a motor patrol along Arocerros Street in Ermita at around 2 p.m. on Thursday, when they noticed a commotion at a vacant lot near Old Park n’ Ride transport hub.
Police said there was a gang fight composed of middle-aged men.
When the gang members noticed the policemen, one of them shouted "Takbo na may pulis (Run, there is a police)," which caused other suspects to scamper in different directions.
A brief chase ensued before Buenaflor was arrested, while his companions managed to escape and evade the arrest.
The arresting officers were able to recover from the arrested suspect a unit of caliber .38 revolver loaded with three live ammunition.
He was immediately brought to MPD- District Special Operations Unit Office (DSOU) and is facing charges for violations of Article 155 (Alarm and Scandal) of the Revised Penal Code and Republic Act 10591 known as the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
