What Cup of Joe says about their music journey: 'Parang up until now po hindi pa rin po kami sanay'

The current darlings of the Pinoy pop music scene, Cup of Joe, made a phenomenal entrance for 2023.

Starting their humble beginnings as students, the band consists of Gian Bernardino and Raphael Ridao as vocalists, keyboardist Xen Gareza, lead guitarist Gab Fernandez, bassist Sevii Severino, and guitarist CJ Fernandez are just getting started.

During their intimate media conference in Boteyju Restaurant at Estancia Mall on Dec. 13, the band shared that they are still overwhelmed by the audience's recognition.

"Parang up until now po hindi pa rin po kami sanay, parang it all feels like a dream pa rin, kapag may nagsasabi po sa amin uy yung kanta niyo ganito-ganyan, ang hirap pa rin po iaccept pero at the same time we're super thankful na we're given the opportunity," Raphaell Ridao said.

These talented 20-something musicians have reached new heights with their infectious songs, led by their chart-topping single "Tingin," featuring the soulful vocals of Janine, which has become their biggest hit to date.

Released early in the year, "Tingin" has resonated with a broad spectrum of listeners, captivating Gen Z and crossing over to millennials.

"Just like Raphael said, it is still a grasp for us kasi from a small audience, then ngayon po hindi lang buong pilipinas, umabot na rin po kami sa ibang bansa," Xen Gareza said.

With only 13 songs on their streaming platforms, Cup Of Joe is more than just a one-hit wonder. The band took a leap of faith from the usual heartbreak songs by creating a positive vibe for love songs.

"Yung themes po kasi ng kanta namin siguro taliwas sa mga nauusong kanta ngayon, actually we took a risk making the themes of our song mostly about positive direction in love," Gian Bernardino said.

Under the care of Viva Records, the band is geared up for the next step of their career. One of their plans is to release a new single and a possible collaboration.

Also, part of their timeline of projects this year is a solo concert in the first half of 2024 that COJ has yet to confirm but has hinted at through various channels. The band did promise that details will be shared with eager fans soon.
