ILOILO CITY – The official Facebook page of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Police Regional Office-6 (Western Visayas) was hacked on Friday, December 29.
“We would like to inform the public that the PRO-6 official Facebook page was hacked at around 5 p.m. on December 29, 2023,” the PRO-6 said in a statement to the Iloilo Police and Defense Press Corps on Saturday, December 30.
“We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this incident might bring to the public,” PRO-6 added.
The official Facebook page of PRO-6 has been deactivated. “This to prevent the hackers from victimizing people using/engaging our Facebook page and also to protect the populace from possible pishing from the culprits,” PRO-6 said.
“The Regional Information Technology and Communication Management Division (RICTMD) and the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU)-6 are actively taking counter-measures to address and resolve the issue.”
“Security measures are being looked into to prevent similar incidents from happening again,” PRO-6 assured.
This is not the first time this year that the Facebook page of the PRO-6 was hacked. The official Facebook page of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) was also hacked last April.
