Filipinos can expect a tropical cyclone-free start to 2024, based on the weather outlook of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
From Dec. 29 to 31, PAGASA said the eastern section of Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.
Meanwhile, Northern and Central Luzon, the rest of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), and Metro Manila will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains because of the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”
The easterlies may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country.
From Monday to Tuesday, Jan. 1 to 2, PAGASA said the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the shear line, while the rest of Northern and Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Metro Manila will have mostly cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
Shear line is a weather system formed by the convergence of cold northeasterly winds and warm easterly winds.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
Due to the surge of the northeast monsoon, which may result in rough to very rough sea conditions, PAGASA advised sea travelers to exercise caution, particularly over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon, and Eastern Visayas.
From Wednesday to Friday, Jan. 3 to 5, PAGASA said the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms because of the shear line, while the rest of Northern and Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Metro Manila will continue to be mostly cloudy with isolated light amihan rains.
The eastern section of Southern Luzon, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga will be mostly cloudy with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
