Rizal Day 2023 was celebrated in Geneva, Switzerland with the theme "Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon, Isinasabuhay Ngayon" (Rizal: Foundation of the Past, Living Today). At this occasion, Ambassador Carlos D. Sorreta reminded the Global Filipinos represented at the gathering that Rizal was the first truly Global Filipino, like each one of them now.

"Today, we are reminded of Dr. Jose Rizal’s heroism and martyrdom amidst pressing global challenges, including conflicts and natural disasters. Dr. Jose Rizal, whose love of country paved the way for our independence, should serve as an inspiration for us all. Indeed, Dr. Rizal is a true Global Filipino who left a lasting legacy of humanity and bravery for Filipinos and the international community."

This was the message delivered by Ambassador Carlos D. Sorreta, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, to the Filipino community during a solemn ceremony at the Permanent Mission on 29 December 2023 for an early commemoration of the 127^th anniversary of the martyrdom of Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

This year’s Rizal Day was celebrated in Switzerland with the theme “Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon, Isinasabuhay Ngayon" (Rizal: Foundation of the Past, Living Today). At this occasion, Ambassador Sorreta reminded the Global Filipinos represented at the gathering that Rizal was the first truly Global Filipino, like each one of them now.

The Ambassador led the Filipino community in International Geneva in singing the national anthem for the last flag ceremony of the year 2023. Thereafter, the Ambassador was joined by Mr. Gerry de Rama, representing Ugnayang Bayan—a Filipino Community umbrella organization—in offering flowers to Dr. Jose Rizal.
