QC ice plant workers evacuate after ammonia leak


An ammonia leak has forced the evacuation of employees at an ice plant on Roosevelt Avenue, Barangay San Antonio, Quezon City on Thursday, Dec. 28.

The Quezon City Fire District (QCFD) said that it deployed personnel in the area to check the situation and the cause of the leak after receiving a report at 11:07 a.m.

The QCFD said all the workers in the ice plant were immediately evacuated to prevent them from inhaling the chemicals. No one was reported hospitalized due to the incident.

Individuals working inside neighboring establishments were also evacuated from their workplaces for their safety.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel wearing hazmat suits (hazardous materials suits) entered the building to locate the origin of the ammonia leak.

The QCFD said that they are still determining where the ammonia leak was coming from.
