Parañaque LGU issues memorandum on use of firecrackers in welcoming New Year

Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez has issued a memorandum order discouraging individual or household from using firecrackers in celebration of the New Year.
According to City Administrator Atty. Voltaire dela Cruz, Olivarez is encouraging residents to use common household items in celebrating New Year to avoid any accidents.
Dela Cruz said the order of Olivarez, as based on the memorandum of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued on Dec. 13, is to conduct monitoring during the New Year celebration for firecracker-related injuries and accidents for the period of Dec. 1 to January 7.
He added that the Parañaque City Police, Parañaque Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Parañaque, and the barangay heads were told that the community fireworks exhibition and display will only be conducted at the designated safe zones.
The mayor said that a permit to possess and display of fireworks shall first be secured from the police; fireworks should be fired at a distance of three to forty-eight hundreds meter away from the people; all fireworks shall project upwards; that a responsible person of at least 21 years and with adequate knowledge of handling fireworks shall be assigned to supervise the fireworks display; that sufficient approved type of first-aid fire protection equipment shall be on hand at the site during the fireworks exhibitions and the nearest fire station should be notified of exhibitions.
Olivarez also said the city government will not tolerate the use of firearms in welcoming the New Year and will take necessary action against those who will be caught firing their weapons indiscriminately.
