The National Electrification Administration (NEA) is preparing for the launch of the Digital Dashboard Command Center (DDCC) to manage the ground support for the electric cooperatives (ECs) and to provide better service to member-consumer-owners.
NEA administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda said the agency is looking at 60 ECs to have DDCC within 2024.
He also expects that the two ECs would serve as the pilot co-ops for the first phase of the command center.
Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) and Cebu III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CEBECO 3) were chosen because they currently have the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
SCADA gathers and analyzes real-time data to observe and control an entire system.
NEA has also planned to partner with government agencies like the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to prepare other ECs on SCADA and the DDCC.
Almeda also shared that the potential DOST collaboration is underway, as he has been working with Sergio C. Dagooc, the representative of the Association of the Philippine Electric Cooperatives (APEC) Partylist.
“[Congressman] Dagooc mentioned to me the willingness of the DOST to help those co-ops [that are] not financially capable for the SCADA system to be incorporated in their operations,” the NEA chief said.
He also added that the ECs would expect great benefits once the proposed collaboration pushes through.
This ensures that no co-ops are left behind in the DDCC’s development.
Almeda said is hopeful that the DOST’s support would integrate 121 ECs into the digital command center.
