Las Piñas LGU to conduct information drive vs firecrackers, pyrotechnic use

Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar directed the city's City Health Office (CHO) to conduct an information campaign on the dangers of using firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in welcoming the New Year.

 Aguilar said aside from the information campaign to be conducted by the CHO, the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) was also ordered to dispatch personnel to confiscate all firecrackers and pyrotechnics being displayed, sold, and distributed in the city in coordination with the barangay personnel.

 She added that barangay personnel will also conduct regular patrolling and monitoring in their areas of jurisdiction.

The mayor said the CHO, BPLO, and barangay personnel were deployed to strictly implement City Ordinance 1484 which has been in effect since 2007 banning the use of all kinds of firecrackers during the celebration of the New Year.

Violators of the city ordinance may be fined P1,000 to P5,000 or face imprisonment of up to 3 to 6 months.

Aguilar noted that community fireworks displays will be allowed provided that the organizers will secure a permit to possess and display fireworks from the local police and the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP). 

Fireworks display shall also be conducted in an open area at a distance of 100 feet away from the people and all fireworks shall be projected upward.
