Jesuit Communications thanks supporters for GomBurZa's 7 awards in MMFF 'Gabi ng Parangal'
Jesuit Communications (JesCom) expressed its gratitude to all those who supported the movie GomBurZa which bagged seven awards in the 49th Metro Manila Film Festival.

JesCom executive director Fr. Emmanuel Alfonso, SJ. said the critically acclaimed film highlights the life and historical legacy of priests Fr. Mariano Gomez, Fr. Jose Burgos, and Fr. Jacinto Zamora.
“We weren’t thinking of the awards. We were focused on how best to tell the story of the three priests,” Fr. Alfonso said over Radio Veritas.
The head of the social media arm of the Society of Jesus said the movie was made to help evangelize using the media platform.
“We thought of media evangelization by way of coming up with a movie. We should use media. We should use social communications to evangelize,” said Fr. Alfonso.
GomBurZa won seven awards in the Gabi ng Parangal of the 49th MMFF held on Wednesday, Dec. 27 including Best Sound Design, Best in Production Design, Best in Cinematography, Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Award, and Second Best Picture while Paul Cedrick Juan was named as Best Actor for his role as Padre Burgos and Jose Pepe Diokno as Best Director.
Fr. Alfonso said the movie is also part of JesCom’s celebration of 500 Years of Christianity in the country.
The narrative of the story was based on research done by Jesuit priest Fr. John Schumacher with the help of other Filipino historians.
Fr. Alfonso encouraged the faithful to support and watch the movie to get acquainted or reacquainted with the country’s history particularly during the Spanish colonization period.
Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines president and Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David earlier expressed support for GomBurZa and encouraged the faithful to watch the movie to ignite the spirit of love for God and love for country.
