3 dead, 1 hurt in Malate fire; P1.2-M damage to property recorded


Three members of a family in Malate died, while the mother was hurt, in a fire that hit a residential area in Malate, Manila on Thursday evening, Dec. 28.

According to arson investigators, the casualties were eight, 21, and 40 years old, while the injured woman was 42. 

 

It added that three houses were heavily damaged while another house was partially damaged affecting nine families or around 35 individuals.

 

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started from a house in San Isidro Street in Singalong, Malate.

 

The fire was raised to the first alarm at 6:18 p.m. and escalated to the second alarm at 6:36 p.m.

 

It was placed under control at 7:04 p.m. and was extinguished at 7:41 p.m.

 

The BFP said the fire caused an estimated P1.2 million damage to property.

 

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
