The Quezon City Police District's Anti-Cybercrime Team (QCPD-ACT) announced on Wednesday, Dec. 27, the arrest of a man who tried to force a female model into working for him in exchange for not exposing her sensitive photos and videos to her family and friends.

The QCPD identified the suspect as Eric Maño, 55, a resident of 1027 Ibarra St., Sampaloc, Manila.
It said that in 2019, the suspect contacted the victim through Facebook and offered her a substantial income through a photo shoot. The victim and the suspect met in a hotel at an undisclosed location to fulfill the agreed-upon arrangement.
Police said that after the photo shoot, the suspect failed to deliver the promised payment to the victim and also blocked her on social media.
It added that the victim received a message from the suspect on Sept. 20, urging her to work as an underwear and swimwear model. The victim disregarded the message.
On Dec. 15, the suspect used a Viber account and forced the victim to meet with him in exchange for deleting the sensitive photos and videos from their previous photo shoot.
The suspect also threatened the victim that he would expose the photos to her family, relatives, and co-workers, if she refused.
This prompted the victim to report the incident to the QCDACT at around 8 a.m. on Dec. 23.
QCDACT personnel conducted an entrapment operation against the suspect in front of a hotel at the corner of Quezon Avenue and Don A. Roces Avenues in Quezon City at around 2:04 p.m. on the same day, which led to his arrest..
Confiscated from the suspect was a black tablet, a mobile phone, various IDs, and a P100 bill.
The suspect will face charges for violations of Article 286 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) or known as Grave Coercion, Republic Act (R.A.) 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism, and R.A. 11313, or Safe Space Act.
The charges were all in relation to Section 6 of the R.A. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan commended the QCDACT personnel for their swift action.
“I urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, reinforcing our commitment in ensuring the safety and security of the community,” he said.
