Quiapo Church execs eye glass cover for Black Nazarene for Traslacion 2024
Quiapo Church officials are considering placing the image of the Black Nazarene inside a glass box for the Traslacion 2024 feast and procession on January 9.
Traslacion was halted from 2021 to 2023 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the church officials, the purpose of the glass box is to keep the Black Nazarene safe from damage during the event, where millions of devotees are expected to attend.
With the 2024 theme “Ibig naming makita si Hesus (We want to see the Lord)," a portion of the cross will be left protruding from the glass box for devotees who want to touch it.
The church also said that it aims to protect the image of the Black Nazarene from the frenzy that normally characterizes the procession of devotees.
“Ito rin ay pagpapanumbalik sa naunang kinagawian na ang Nazareno lang ang nakikita sa Andas at hindi na ito bago (This also restores the previous practice that only the Nazarene is seen in Andas and this is no longer new),” it added.
The traditional “Pahaplos,” where devotees wipe the image with their hand towels and clothes will also be practiced.
Meanwhile, the church advised the devotees to avoid pushing and climbing onto the back of other devotees just to reach the Black Nazarene.
