'Parasite' film star Lee Sun-kyun found dead

Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, star of the Oscar winning film “Parasite,” was found dead on Dec. 27. He was 48.

Lee Sun-kyun (이선균), who also starred in the drama “Coffee Prince,” was under investigation by the police for illegal drug use.

The police started investigating him in October for use of marijuana and psychotropic drugs. He was banned from leaving South Korea due to the investigation.

Korean media reported Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in his car near Waryong Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

He passed away in an apparent suicide with charcoal briquette found in the passenger seat of his car, Yonhap News reported.

According to the police, a 112 report was received from his wife at around 10:12 a.m. on Dec. 27, stating that “her husband left the house after writing a note.”

Afterwards, police were dispatched and found a vehicle, and upon identification, it turned out to be Seon-gyun Lee.

He is survived by his wife, actress Jeon Hye-jin, and two sons. His funeral has not yet been decided.

Lee Sun-kyun was born in 1975. He starred in other dramas such as "Pasta," "Loveholic," "Golden Time," "Miss Korea," "Listen to Love," "My Mister" and "Diary of a Prosecutor." His last drama project was "Payback," which was released this year.
