9-year-old child dead in Alfonso, Cavite multi-vehicle accident


CAVITE – A family faces a heartbreaking Christmas after a nine-year-old child died in a multi-vehicle accident in Barangay Luksuhin Ibaba, Alfonso, Friday night, Dec. 22.

At around 7:30 p.m., a passenger bus had a brake malfunction and careened uncontrollably for 500 meters along a downhill road. It hit several vehicles, including the Mitsubishi Xpander carrying the nine-year-old child and the child's parents.

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) responder Maica Broñoso told the Manila Bulletin that the father is currently in a coma, while the mother was also taken to the hospital after losing consciousness.

Aside from the family, several others sustained minor injuries, including the drivers of a van and a motorcycle involved in the accident.

The accident caused heavy traffic in the area. The Bureau of Fire Protection Alfonso had to carry out a flushing operation to clear the accident site of hazardous materials, including gasoline and broken glass.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Randy Salamat asked for prayers for the safety of those injured in the accident.

“Lord, kayo na po ang bahala. Salamat din po sa lahat ng tumulong sa aksidenteng ito (Lord, we leave it up to you. Thank you also to everyone who helped during this accident)” Salamat wrote.

The clearing operation in the accident site lasted until past 9:00 p.m.
