Man goes missing while spear fishing in Cebu


CEBU CITY – Authorities launched a search and retrieval operation after a 21-year-old man went missing while spear fishing off Santander town, southern Cebu.

As of 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, divers from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and local disaster risk reduction and management offices of Samboan and neighboring town Santander have yet to find Louis Jullan Jugo Dayot, a resident of Barangay San Sebastian, Samboan, Cebu.

Dayot set out to sea past 6 a.m. on Christmas Day to test his new spearfishing gear.

He had a companion when he went diving. His companion told authorities that Dayot was still able to resurface after their first dive.

Dayot dove for the second time but did not resurface anymore.

Diving gear was found in Amlan, Negros Oriental and authorities are verifying if it belonged to Dayot.
