Woman nabbed for counterfeit currency

LOPEZ, Quezon – Police arrested a woman from Cavite for paying fake currency for goods she purchased in a store in the public market here on Saturday morning, December 23.

The victim, Angeles Ballesteros, 70, businesswoman, sought police assistance after she was paid fake P1,000 by the 44-year-old suspect for two packs of all-purpose cream by the suspect.

Police apprehended the suspect while still at the victim’s store and she yielded 12 more fake P1,000 bills with serial number K589110 in an incidental search.

Suspect face charges for violating Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) – illegal possession and use of false treasury banks or bank notes and other instruments or credit.

Police reminded the public to be aware of counterfeit money this Christmas season.
