DOH reports 4 new fireworks-related injuries, promotes community displays to minimize injuries
The Department of Health (DOH) reported four new fireworks-related injuries on Sunday, Dec. 24, bringing the total to 12 this holiday season.

Based on the DOH's Fireworks-Related Injury Surveillance (FWRI) Report, two new cases involved boys aged 11 and 17 who used illegal fireworks known as "piccolo and boga."
The other two were a 23-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman who used "kwitis."
Given this, the DOH urged the public to celebrate the holidays with community fireworks displays organized by local leaders and businesses instead of using them themselves.
The department further emphasized that the magic of fireworks lies not in the displays and loud sounds but in the safe distance of community displays, surrounded by family and friends.
"Community fireworks displays can provide longer-lasting, professional, and safer shows," the statement read.
"Let us bring in a #BagongPilipinas where #BawatBuhayMahalaga and fireworks injuries are minimized," it added.
