Tighter security imposed in Cebu City ports, bus terminals

CEBU CITY – Police have enforced tighter security measures as hundreds of passengers begun flocking to piers and terminals here.

On Saturday, December 23, Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7), led the inspection of port and bus terminals in this city to ensure that there is enough police visibility.

Aberin also inspected some major churches in this city.

He was satisfied with the number of police officers that he saw in public places.

Aberin said having police officers every 100 meters in major streets was followed although there is a need to adjust with the buddy system.

“Based on what I saw, I think there is a need to improve with the deployment of personnel. One policeman was far from his buddy. They should be near each other so that when something happens, at least they can be together right away,” said Aberin.

Aberin said they are expecting more people to arrive in ports and bus terminals and in other public places here on December 24 to 25.

He instructed provincial and city directors to beef up their personnel on the ground.

Apart from having policemen on the streets, Aberin also asked commercial establishments to make sure that their closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) are functioning.

“Because if we don’t have CCTVs, it might be difficult for us if something happens,” said Aberin.

During his inspection of bus terminals, Aberin advised drivers to drive safely and ensure that their vehicles are in good condition to prevent accidents.
