The Hotshots went on a blistering 19-3 blast in the opening minutes of the final frame to stave off a gallant stand from the FiberXers, who managed to keep themselves within striking distance before fading in the payoff period.
Magnolia, already assured of twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals, solidified its claim for the top spot after improving to a 9-1 win-loss record while also formally eliminating Converge from playoff contention in the process after sliding to a 1-8 slate.
After being limited to just five points in the first two quarters, import Tyler Bey came alive in the second half, dropping 22 of his 27 points that also went with 13 rebounds to power the Hotshots to back-to-back wins after their previous seven-game win streak got snapped.
Jio Jalalon scattered an all-around effort of 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while James Laput chipped in 10 points and seven boards.
Star forward Calvin Abueva, meanwhile, finished with six points and seven rebounds in his conference debut after being sidelined by hemorrhoids and then later a calf injury.
Facing up against Converge that was playing for their tournament lives, the Magnola actually found itself trailing by two, 60-62, heading into the final frame.
That, however, was the time the Hotshots decided to tighten up their defensive screws, completing consecutive stops that fueled the telling run that built them a comfortable 79-65 lead.
As expected, Converge refused to wave the white flag just yet, cutting the lead down to single digits only to get the door slammed on them by timely hits from Jalalon and Mark Barroca.
Converge import Jamil Wilson paced his team with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Alec Stockton had 16 in another losing effort.
