DOLE: Northern Mindanao workers, kasambahay to get wage increase next month
By Trixee Rosel
The minimum wage for workers in Northern Mindanao region will increase following the latest daily wage adjustment approved by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said.
From P423 a day, the daily wage for workers in non-agriculture sector will soon be P438 while the minimum wage for agriculture sector will be from P411/day to P426 a day.
The RTWPB also issued Wage Order No. RX-DW-04, which increased the monthly minimum wage of domestic workers or kasambahay, by P500 for chartered cities and first-class municipalities and P1,500 for other municipalities.
With the increase, the minimum monthly salary of kasambahays will soon be P5,000.
Citing existing laws and procedures, DOLE said the wage order is to take effect after 15 days from its publication—or on Jan. 11, 2024.
Based on the DOLE data, there are around 144,133 minimum wage earners in Northern Mindanao who will directly benefit from the wage hike.
However, the salary hikes for kasambahays will apply to a total of 54,851 domestic workers, nearly 20 percent, or 11,059, of whom are on a live-in arrangement.
The last Wage Order for workers in private establishments and domestic workers in the region were both issued on 27 May 2022 and became effective on 18 June 2022.
