Calabarzon cops on their toes as CPP-NPA turns 55

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Quezon Police Provincial Office remains vigilant as the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army on Saturday declared a 24-hour ceasefire in line with Christmas and the party’s 55th founding anniversary.

Other police provincial offices in Region 4-A are also on guard against possible attacks from the communist rebels during the event.

The Central Committee and the National Operations Command of the NPA said the ceasefire starts 12:01 a.m. on December 25 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on December 26.

According to them, the truce allows the peasant masses and NPA units to conduct assemblies, meetings, or gatherings to celebrate the CPP anniversary, look back at past achievements, and pay tribute to all heroes and martyrs of the Philippine revolution.

“This ceasefire declaration is also in solidarity with people’s traditional holiday celebrations,” they added.
