5 dead in 2-vehicle smashup in Batangas


CITY OF SANTO TOMAS, Batangas – Five persons died and three were injured in a collision between a truck and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in Barangay San Miguel, this city, before dawn on Saturday, December 23.

Police withheld the identities of the victims.

The fatalities and injured were passengers of the Toyota Innova MPV driven by Lester Lesmoras, 23, of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija.

Five victims were declared dead on arrival at Laurel Memorial District Hospital. The injured were taken to two separate hospitals, police said.

The Innova was traveling towards Bulacan from Catarman, Northern Samar when it collided with the truck with license plates CAP-7309 driven by Salvador Arreglo, 58, of Barangay Calumpang, Tayabas City, Quezon, which was on its way to Tayabas City from Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

Victims were taken to separate hospitals here.

One of the injured said Lesmoras fell asleep when the accident happened.
