Israel calls for release of remaining hostages through jeepney parade
The Israeli Embassy in the Philippines on Friday, Dec. 22, held a jeepney parade around Manila to call for the immediate release of individuals still in captivity by the Hamas militants.
Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss said the embassy is using jeepneys "as canvasses to convey a powerful message of solidarity with Israel and a heartfelt plea for the safe return of the abductees."
"You'll see these jeepneys adorned with canvases displaying the photos of the kidnapped individuals and the flags of Israel, symbolizing the solidarity between our nations," Fluss said.

The Israeli diplomat said the embassy chose jeepneys to represent the Israeli people's message as they "hold a special place in the hearts of Filipinos, representing not only a mode of transportation but a vibrant tapestry of Filipino culture and history."
A total of 15 jeepneys, which were covered with posters of faces of the kidnapped individuals, paraded around Manila.
"Often referred to as the ‘King of the Road,’ Jeepneys are a testament to resilience and adaptability as a people," he added.
Until now, the embassy is still pressing for the liberty of 129 individuals who remain as hostages of Hamas since the rebel group launched a surprise attack on Jewish state on October 7.
Fluss recounted his conversation with Jimmy Pacheco, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was one of the hostages already released by Hamas, and with Camille Jesalva, another OFW who survived the attack, when the two returned to Manila.
"I had the privilege of welcoming Jimmy Pacheco in NAIA as he returned for a visit back home. Jimmy endured 47 days as a hostage of Hamas in Gaza, surviving unimaginable horrors. His story is just one among many," he said.
"Camile, a true hero, her loyalty and courage in saving her patient under fire exemplify the spirit we admire. Both of them are now part of Israel and have become integral members of the Israeli society and community," he added.
Fluss then invited the Filipino people and "those who stand for good, for justice and human rights" to join the embassy in its campaign.
"Let's harness the power of the Jeepneys to amplify our collective voice, sending a resounding message of hope and solidarity to the world," he said.
"We should all put pressure on the Hamas and Iran – let the hostages go home. Together, we can make a difference and contribute to the safe return of the remaining abductees," he added.
