The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Friday, Dec. 22, that it has constructed a new bridge that made travel in the town of General Mamerto in Nueva Ecija easier and more comfortable for farmers and local residents.
In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Y. Trinidad said the P7.7 million-worth project currently links two communities separated by an irrigation system in Barangay Burol, allowing farmers to travel into the town core and nearby markets in a safer and shorter manner.
He explained that the two communities are now better connected by a 25-lineal-meter concrete bridge, which will substantially reduce travel time.
“The bridge significantly enhances the convenience of transportation, agricultural trading, education, and healthcare services in the community,” Trinidad said.
Trinidad noted that the two-lane bridge also included the construction of railings and solar-powered street lights to provide extra security in low-light situations.
The project was funded under the Basic Infrastructure Program of the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
