The commercial loads on GMA Network's “Eat Bulaga” have increased despite the ruling of the Intellectual Property Office in the Philippines (IPOPHL) canceling the trademark registration for the noontime show. 

This is according to Maggie Abraham-Garduque, spokesperson and lawyer for the Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE), the producer of “Eat Bulaga.”

“Kasi simula ng lumabas ang decision, mas lalo tumaas ang commercial loads namin (Because since the decision came out, our commercial loads further increased),” she said. 

The increase meant that companies are supporting “Eat Bulaga,” she said.  

“And this is evidenced by the continuous increase in the commercial loads,” she said. 

During a previous press conference about the IPOPHL ruling, Abraham-Garduque thanked advertisers for their continued support of “Eat Bulaga” despite the legal issues. 

“It means a lot to us. You can really know your friends/partners in times of crisis. This means that the advertisers never lose but in fact lalo pa sila nagtiwala sa amin,” she said. 

She added that more advertisers are coming in “and we are really emotional on this. Words are not enough to thank them.” 

“We had been in continuous communication with our advertisers who we consider as partners. They said that they believe in the new show now as we have established viewership already,” she said. 

In a decision dated Dec. 4, the IPOPHL’s Bureau of Legal Affairs Adjudication Officer Josephine Alon granted the petition of Tito and Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, known as TVJ, to cancel the trademark registrations of “Eat Bulaga” and “EB” under TAPE. 

“Wherefore, premises considered, the instant Petition for Cancellation is hereby granted. Accordingly, Certificate of Registration No. 4-2011-005951 issued on 14 June 2013 for the trademark [Eat Bulaga]…is hereby cancelled,” according to the decision by Alon. 

TAPE filed an appeal with the BLA director on Dec. 12 to reverse the decision.
