The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Bureau of Import Service (BIS) soft launched on Dec. 19 a centralized electronic filing system to streamline the management and organization of trade remedy petitions.
According to DTI Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual, the Trade Remedy Electronic Filing System (TREFS) is a “prime example of DTI’s innovative approach to easing our ways of doing business in the trade industry.”
“This is our way forward, led by the DTI-BIS, as we address the challenges faced by our domestic producers in navigating the complexities of filing trade remedy petitions,” he added.
DTI-BIS Director Maria Guiza Lim said that the system was “envisioned to introduce alternative procedure for filing petitions, responses, and other submissions related to trade remedy measures, by providing a more efficient and accessible avenue for these measures.”
TREFS features step-by-step guidance on filing trade remedy petitions and extensions, promising a smooth and hassle-free submission and documentation process since the system can be accessed 24/7 by stakeholders and clients.
Submissions are examined and validated through the protocols of DTI-BIS’ Import Remedy Measures Division. Data protection measures are also deployed to safeguard sensitive information.
It also has prompt notifications to alert clients of updates on their documents.
“TREFS is a testament to our goal of leading science, technology, and innovation (STI)-driven programs and services. Through a whole-of-government approach, the DTI remains committed to our goal of ensuring the country’s accessible and conducive business environment for all,” remarked Pascual.
