The Light Rail Transit Line-1 (LRT-1) on Wednesday, Dec. 20 completed the first test run on the tracks of the Cavite Extension Phase 1  which is expected to open by the last quarter of 2024.

Currently, Light Rail Manila Corporation President Juan Alfonso  said  the civil and system works for the Cavite Extension Phase 1 had already advanced to a 95 percent completion rate.

“The LRT-1 Cavite Extension is now taking shape. We are confident that once this extension is operational, it will help significantly improve the train system in our country, providing a more efficient and reliable transportation option,” LRMC President Juan Alfonso said.

The test was intended to evaluate the interface between essential infrastructure components and offer a compatibility check.

The train used in the test was a Gen-2 train set since it has the widest car body, making it the most strategic option for determining initial compatibility with station platforms, walkways, and cableways.

More train test runs are planned in the following weeks to test the additional LRT-1 train generations at various speeds and load capacities.

From the first phase's completion, LRMC will continue to the second phase, including the stations in Las Piñas and Zapote and the Niog Station in the third and final phase.

Once completed, the extension is expected to reduce travel time from Pasay City to Cavite from an hour and a half to about thirty minutes.
