Iloilo was one of two provinces in the country awarded by DOE for its exemplary performance and pioneering initiatives in implementing the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) that seeks the reduction of power and oil consumption through efficient use of electricity or fuel in government vehicles.

Defensor said Iloilo allocated P30 million for renewable energy projects this year.

It is part of the expansion of projects as Iloilo is the country’s first local government unit (LGU) to enact a counterpart law to Republic Act No. 9513 or the Renewable Energy Act.

Defensor was accompanied by Iloilo Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office chief  Caesar Emmanuelle Buyco, Provincial Board Member Rolando Distura, and  EEC Focal Rey Victor Garin of the Provincial Planning and Development Office.
