Ex-OFW yields P55-M shabu


CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Taiwan was apprehended by authorities after claiming eight kilos of imported shabu worth P55 million in a controlled delivery operation in Barangay Hugo Perez, Trece Martires City, Cavite, on Tuesday, December 19.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Pampanga identified the suspect as Michael G. Florendo, 36.

It said that a package containing shabu arrived at the Port of Clark on December 17.

“The parcels containing the illegal drugs emanated from Long Beach, California, United States, and were consigned to Florendo. The discovery of the illicit items prompted us to launch a controlled delivery operation,” PDEA-Pampanga said.

The operation was conducted by PDEA-Pampanga, PDEA-Clark, Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Clark, PDEA-Cavite, and police.

Recovered illegal drugs will be forwarded to the PDEA-3 Laboratory Section for forensic examination.
Florendo is temporarily detained at PDEA-3 in City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Suspect faces charges of violating Section 4 (importation of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act 9165 will be filed against Florendo.
