The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has declared the “botong tree” in Pasay City as a heritage tree on Monday, Dec. 18.
Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, together with representatives from the DENR and Pasay Culture and Arts Council head Teresita Robles, unveiled the marker declaring the “botong tree” as a heritage tree.
Rubiano said the 100-year-old “botong tree” is located along Barangay 13, Pasay City.
She said the leaves and fruits of the botong tree are being used as herbal medicine for stomach ache and rheumatism.
The mayor also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on the preservation of the “botong tree.”
“Rest assured that in this journey, heritage sites such as this tree will not be replaced or hidden. Rather, it will be more highlighted and emphasized, because it is our mission to remain truly Pasayenyo, truly Filipino, while we grow into an internationally competitive EcoCity,” Rubiano said.
