CEBU CITY – The province of Bohol took a major step towards becoming the first province to have a Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) that is compliant with the new rules and regulations of the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program.
The Provincial Development Council (PDC) has approved the endorsement of the province’s LPTRP to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
Lawyer John Titus Vistal, provincial planning and development coordinator, presented the LPTRP during the PDC meeting on Tuesday, December 19.
It was during the full council meeting presided over by Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte that the endorsement of the LPTRP to the LTFRB was approved.
Once the LPTRP is approved by the LTFRB, Bohol will be the first province to comply with the government’s public utility modernization program.
Vistal explained that the LPTRP is a detailed plan network with specific modes of transportation and required number of units per mode for delivering land transport services. It is the basis in the minimum requirement prescribed for the issuance of PUV franchises.
The plan will also address transport concerns especially on intra-province routes for specific public utility vehicles.
The speedy formulation of the plan was in response to the directive of Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado to enable the application of transport operators for franchises.
